Review:
The Artful Dodger has a deceptively long layout from the classic small Georgian exterior with Dickensian scenes graffitied on the walls within, they’ve certainly gone for a theme but the quality of the décor is in a somewhat mismatched condition. A long wood top bar is fitted with small TVs along the central section, with seating areas to the front and rear. They have a good range of three real ales on the bar which are averagely priced. This is definitely a bar that is aimed more towards students with a very obvious rock/goth vibe. It remains pretty unchanged for the last few years apart from an improvement on the beer but the toilets are awful and the outside area is just an alley out to the side, functional for smoking but little else. Access isn’t good with steps up the entrance and the several levels up to the bar and rear. It’s not a bad bar by any means, it’s has a wide range of clientele and a good enough selection of drinks to say for one on the way up Micklegate, but other than the attraction of a late licence or if you’re really like your rock music it’s a pretty average pub.
