-Biltmore-
Review:
Sharing the York Central Mission Hall Pentecostal Church building with Oscars is the very luxurious Biltmore; a huge central space is dominated by an island bar and surrounded by an art deco inspired mezzanine floor. There’s lots of soft backlighting and a warm glow from the main cluster of lights dropping down from the lofty ceiling, with ample leather seating scattered throughout. Unfortunately the mezzanine floor is reserved purely for dining which is a great shame as the fake grass lined stairs, long glass bottle cabinet and the view from there are quite impressive. It’s a very striking building but when it comes down the nitty-gritty not really our type of place. The Biltmore is more of a trendy champagne lounge type of venue, lots of glass, chrome and slightly tacky white plastic stags, not a single real ale in sight, just a few overpriced bottled beers. All this enforced class though is at a slight juxtaposition with the loud chavvy music played by their DJ which dominates in the cavernous room and of course it all comes at a very high cost. There is no outside space and the toilets are rather average in comparison to the rest of the building. It can be a rather frenetic and loud venue, but if that’s the kind of vibe you like and you’re into your cocktails and wine maybe it’s not that bad, but our scores reflect our opinion and it’s really not the type of bar we like at all.
