-Brigantes-
Review:
Brigantes has always been a firm favourite of ours in York, a pioneer in the craft ale scene for this area of the City for over 10 years. With its fresh airy Victorian styling the ground floor has a bright and vibrant atmosphere with plenty of seating so you can get a good foothold in for the night. There’s a second room through to the left which was knocked through a few years back which adds even more capacity to the pub and a good dining area. This is a superb real ale house with an extensive beer selection which is very well kept and at pretty average prices considering what’s on offer. Upstairs there is quiet and secluded room which is sometimes used for functions but can offer a good refuge from the hustle and bustle below. The toilets feel very welcoming with their ambient backlit lighting and are certainly some of the nicest we’ve frequented. Access to the ground floor is pretty good, with just the lower half of the backroom down a few stairs. The crowd is always an interesting mix of people but they all share the love of the quality beer that is on offer here, it’s just a shame there isn’t really anywhere for them to put in a beer garden. As a beer lovers pub you couldn’t get much better than this and as so we’d definitely recommend it as one of the best more modern traditional pubs in York!
