Review:
The Kings Arms is a traditional Sam Smiths pub with probably the most prestigious position of any pub in York, known nationally as “The Pub that Floods” it’s prime riverside location makes it a mecca for locals and tourists alike on warm sunny days, especially pulling in the crowds when the Races are on with the rich lot being able to park their boats out front. This does mean that it can get a really busy as there aren’t many other decent riverside locations in York, obviously they receive the top score for this, but also on their prices. As with all Sam Smith pubs it’s all about the cheap local Sam’s beer, although not the best around for its price you can’t complain. To keep prices down they do skimp in other areas and the pub itself is pretty basic with no music and a bit of an old man vibe. It is interesting to see the tide marks from previous flooding and how the pub has coped by fitting plugs halfway up the wall and tiling the whole area, their cellar is even on the first floor. It’s kind of one of those pubs with such a reputation it’d be rude not to pop in for a drink or if you’re lucky on warm days get a seat outside. Although not the best the City has to offer its charm and location more than make up for it.
