-Pitcher & Piano-
Review:
York’s Pitcher & Piano is another lucky bar that benefits from a superb location by the river, unfortunately this is a limited saving grace. The décor is a glossy mix of modern urban textures blended together within the old Victorian hall, open brickwork, steel pillars and soft leather seating. It is a wide and airy space including a large mezzanine floor with light flooding from the fully glazed side of the building looking out onto the river Ouse. There’s a good sized decked area beyond directly above the river affording superb views, so high scores all round for their alfresco experience. But these are the highlights, as when you scratch beneath the surface what we really have here is a very overpriced and pretentious bar with a limited selection of beer which was not kept very well at all. It’s all a little soulless and tries too hard to be trendy. Although you really can’t be the look of the place if that’s the kind of thing you’re impressed by and the accessibility and toilets are pretty good. If you’re feeling rather flush and like generic lager then this is the place for you. Others beware; there are much more pleasant bars that afford a river view at the end of the day.
