Review:
Situated on Low Ousegate right by Ouse Bridge Slug & Lettuce Riverside is one of the two Slug & Lettuce chain bars within the City. This bar is probably the better of the two given its prominent location with views out onto the river. This is maximised by huge windows right down the side which can open up in the summer months giving the bar a light, airy and spacious feel. With an extensive refurbishment in 2016 the overall feel of the bar is very glitzy and glamorous with sparking chandeliers and luxurious textures, tiled and wooden floors, open brickwork and lots of glass. It does have all the usual trappings of a commercial chain bar though, loud music, frenetic clientele and unfortunately not a hand pump in sight, just a few keg offerings and bottles. Expect the higher prices that bars like this usually afford. It’s a fast a noisy space which is certainly more geared towards big parties after cocktails and generic lagers, with live DJs and its own dance floor at the back policed by surly looking bouncers. A new addition also sees a very trendy cocktails bar behind the dancefloor which does look impressive with its brick and neon lighting. The toilets are vastly improved too and if access is an issue for you, the Slug & Lettuce is perfectly level throughout. All in all with its many, many seating areas and pleasant enough surroundings it’s a pretty decent chain bar, just not really our scene.
