Review:
The Priory has always remained a pretty consistently standard boozer on Micklegate which is primarily focused on sport and cheap beer. The latest refurbishment in 2016 gives a nice enough atmosphere of a well-lit and cleanly presented pub, it’s nothing to shout about but it no longer feels like the slightly worn around the edges pub that it used to be. It’s a fully open plan space with ample seating throughout and lots of TVs, a pool table, darts board and Juke Box. It even has its own small yard out back but this certainly more of a smoker’s area than anything else. There’s plenty to keep you entertained apart from maybe the beer selection, just 3 standard casks, although their own Priory Pale Ale by Camerons was a pretty nice pint and the price was very good for the area, just the range that was somewhat lacking. Access is pretty spot on and there’s lots of space within giving the pub a quite warm airy feel. Also the toilets have been vastly improved since we last visited but are nothing special. So if you like your traditional sports boozer then The Priory is worth a visit, just don’t expect to get blown away by any originality.
