Review:
Vahe Bar is a very pleasant continental style café bar transposed into the ancient street of Goodramgate, two old shops were stripped back and joined together exposing the character of low beams and warm brick, all of which leads to a cosy and friendly feel, especially from the welcoming staff. The first room crams in the small well stocked bar which has a good selection of real ales as well as a great range of imported kegs, specifically Belgian beers. Some of which you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in York especially on draft, with all this to get your teeth into at a reasonable price it makes Vahe Bar an essential destination for those that crave something continental. The second room provides more intimate seating and access out to the only small let down which is the 19th century style outhouse toilets, a little cold and grim but functional enough. Other than the small yard to the toilets there is no outside space but that can be forgiven with the stunning view from the window seats of York Minster. Due to everything being on the ground floor access is really good just the narrowness that would take a little navigation. This is a bar that is very much focused on great beer in a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and is certainly worth a visit.
