-The Whippet Inn-
Review:
When we found out that the Yorkshire Hussar was to be transformed into a steak and ale bar we were very pleased, as a building it was always a beautiful pub but suffered from its poor location and it would seem the Yorkshire Hussar was always doomed to fail. So extensively refurbish, while keeping true to the building’s Victorian past, the pubs was reborn as The Whippet Inn in 2013. Most of the floor space has been taken over by the restaurant section though, the main backroom and the side room, which is now a very plushly upholstered VIP dining room. Which does leave very little space to function as a bar but sometimes great things come in small packages. The detail and glamour of the décor is wonderful, a mix of open brickwork, subtle lighting and some sexy wallpaper, take a closer look at the pattern and you’ll know what we mean! There was a good selection of beers available and the staff were very friendly, although prices are a little high. Initially we thought they’d missed a bit in the toilets until we noticed the chipboard wall was polished up and was actually a feature and we think it works, the facilities were vastly improved either way. The yard to the rear appears to have been greatly extended too and if you know it’s there it does add some much needed drinking space and seating. It’s a good sheltered area to soak up some summer sun. All in all although losing a lot of space over to the highly successful steak restaurant, The Whippet Inn retains the historical character of the building adding a welcome layer of charm and quality; it is definitely worth checking out but maybe more suiting to dining and with its strict adult only policy it’s certainly not a place to take the kids.
